You can perform measure calculations using the features tools in Imago Portal. For example, you can calculate:
- Area
- Perimeter
- Segment length
- counting
In this example, we will explain how you can perform area measurements of ore veins within an Area of Interest (AOI) directly from underground mine imagery.

1. Attribute Definition
First, when logged in Imago Portal, go to Workspaces and then Imagery Definitions
Then, once you are in the Imagery Definitions menu, click on Attribute Definitions. Here you will define the Attribute that will be used to store the ore area and the Area of interest.
Once you create the New Attribute Definition, by clicking on it you access the attribute definition configuration, then you can create Attribute types for each measurement:
At the moment you have created the Attributes that will store the measurements performed by the feature. For this, return to the Imagery Definitions menu to create the polygon type Feature that is going to be used to measure the Ore Area and the Area of Interest (AOI).
2. Feature Definition
Note that once created you will have to assign the Polygon Attributes previously created in the Attributes section of the Feature Definition. Then you can add a feature type for each area: AOI and Ore Area. Verify that the shape of this feature type is a polygon and choose the color for each of them. We recommend you to choose a color that has a high contrast with the images to be measured.
3. Attribute Definition
In the previous steps, you created the features and attributes. Now, you will assign them to the Imagery type that's going to be measured. In this example, we are going to use the Underground (UG) images from the Grashopper Mine Production.
4. Perform Measurements
Once the attributes and features have been assigned to the imagery type is time for taking area measures. For this, you are going to the lightbox (you can click the imago logo at the top left corner) and there you'll turn on the desired imagery. In this case the UG images. You'll have to check on the Polygon Attributes and features in order to see them.
Then, you'll activate editing by turning on the Editing button at the top right corner.
Following these steps, you are ready for drawing the AOI and then the Ore Areas. Remember to right-click when you finish drawing the polygon to save it.
As you can see below, by clicking the "Change how images are sized" button (green arrow), it's possible to see the AOI total area (red arrow) and Ore Area total sum (yellow arrow) in the right.
To obtain the percentage of Ore area relative to the AOI, you can export the attributes using Imago Connect+Tools Desktop Software, and then perform the percentage calculation using, for example, MS Excel.
For this exercise, the Ore Area corresponds to approximately 5% of the AOI.
