Imago Overview
Before you explore the Imago web portal by viewing images, this section explains the overall concept of Imago and provides an introduction to the Imago interface.
With Imago it is only a single camera click to:
- Capture images and label with Hole ID and depths.
- Crop Core and Chip tray images to downhole depth registered images.
- Auto save to PC with live, sync to Imago Cloud or sync when online. Auto copy to internal drive.
Once your images are captured
You have easy access to images via Imago Web from any location:
- Zoom in to take full advantage of the image resolution.
- Integration with popular geology and mine planning tools. Click the drillhole trace to open the corresponding image.
Imago may be used at all stages of exploration, development and mining:
- Capture images of Chip Piles at the drill site for exploration air drilling using Imago Mobile.
- Capture Chip Tray images, with cells automatically cropped and depth registered.
- Capture Core Tray images with core automatically cropped to downhole depth registered images.
- Capture field images, face samples, thin sections. Any type of geological image can be managed by Imago.

Viewing data
The beauty of Imago is that there are very few mouse clicks required to view your images in-context. Before exploring Imago (Explore Imago - building blocks), let's spend a little time becoming familiar with the interface:
The area to the right of the left menu is the main area where imagery will be displayed. This can either be:
Light table
Active Imagery is displayed in a depth context.
Gallery
Active imagery is displayed in a gallery layout.
Map
Active imagery is displayed on a map.
1. Main menu
Two options are available:
a. Imagery
This option exposes a left-hand menu focused towards the selection of imagery to be displayed on the light table. The process for selecting and working with your imagery will be explained a little later.
b. Analytics
This option displays a bar chart showing upload frequencies over time:
Start and Finish dates may be changed by clicking on the date and making a new selection from the calendar tool. Hovering the mouse over a specific bar displays the date and upload count:
The grid below the chart provides summary upload statistics. Clicking a row in the grid selects the relevant imagery and displays on the light table.
2. Hide/show left menu
As it's name implies, this is a simple toggle to hide/show the left hand menu. Useful for maximising screen space for the light table.
3. Display information for the selected imagery
At this stage, you do not have any selected active imagery. We will revisit this option a little later to see the kind of information displayed.
4. Active imagery
When you make a selection from a workspace, imagery descriptions associated with your selection, will be displayed here. These are referred to as active imagery and may be selected for display on the light table, grid view or map.
5. Search workspaces for drillholes with imagery
This is a useful feature for searching for one or more specific drillholes. When you enter a value, Imago will search the workspace for drillholes starting with whatever you have entered. For example, if you enter 'aa', the list is restricted to those drillholes starting with these letters:
Note. Search is not case sensitive. Entering 'AA' will produce the same result.
6. Workspace
A workspace is a logical grouping of imagery. In essence a workspace contains datasets which contain collections of imagery. For example, there are two datasets in the screenshot below ('Blackfly Exploration' and 'Firefly Resource Development'):

In the above screenshot, the 'Firefly Resource Development' workspace consists of imagery datasets related to 'Drilling Core'. These include 'Core Boxes', 'Downhole', 'Televiewer' and more. These names are user-defined, not Imago defined. Clicking a dataset, lists available collections of imagery related to that dataset.
8. Editor toggle
With active imagery on the light table or gallery, it is possible to add/delete features such as polygons (to assign features). To do so, the Editor needs to be toggled on.
9. Settings
This provides access to My Workspaces (those you have permissions to work with), My account (your account settings) and Knowledgebase.
The Imago value proposition
Most exploration and mining companies invest significant effort in capturing and storing images of their geology core trays. Increasingly, Imago customers are photographing their chip trays and chip piles at the drill site. Most geologists feel that accessing those images is time consuming and inefficient. There is significant value to be gained from easy, rapid access to high quality geology images for every stage of the drilling, interpretation and modelling workflow.
Imago is centred around the capture, management and viewing of high quality core and chip images, greatly improving:
- Quality of geological logging and re-logging.
- Quality of geological Interpretation and modelling.
- Supervision and real time review of site-based drilling chip and core logging.
- Monitoring and review of active drilling programs.
- Collaborative review of geology.
- Structure observations and measurements.
While storage and access to core and chip images is the primary source of value, Imago also provides advice to customers to achieve more efficient image capture:
- Higher quality images e.g. consistency of colour, lighting and resolution.
- Camera selection, configuration and setup, capture stations and image capture process.
Machine Learning
Imago is collaborating with industry and investing in state of the art Machine Learning techniques focused towards helping our customers gain insights directly from their library of drilling sample and core images.
By aiding our customers, in the initial image capture stages, to produce consistently higher image quality, Imago helps position their business to apply more advance machine learning techniques as they become available.
