Given our demands on time some of you might rather buy an off the shelf solution to image your core. Following is a list of the components and the possible setups for a fixed imaging station that can be bought from any number of places around the world. It basically consists of a tripod encased in styrofoam sheets to create a light box.
- Choose only one of the cameras on the list
- Depending on the size of your core box you might only need on flash
If you want to mount on a table and do not have enough room you can mount against a wall using this approach:
Controlling is the most important condition of the imaging station. We must ensure that no direct light touches the core, it must all be diffused in order to reduce glare. No external light should hit the core either so normally a box is constructed around the imaging station.
The box can be constructed of Styrofoam panels, wood or any other material.
